About My Clients
Many people I work with have been in therapy before and learned cognitive or mindfulness skills that, while helpful, don't seem to go deep enough. Maybe this is true for you, too--in spite of all your best efforts, you still feel anxious and depressed, struggle with obsessive thoughts, or feel stuck in old patterns. I can help you get to the root of your problems instead of just looking at the surface-level symptoms, so that you can get back to living life fully and joyfully.
My Background and Approach
I have Bachelor's degrees in psychology and French and my Master's degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, during which I emphasized LGBTQ+ mental health, women's issues, immigration and cultural concerns, trauma, and neuroscience. I completed a two-year intensive postgraduate training program in advanced psychoanalytic psychotherapy with children, adolescents, and adults at the St. Louis Psychoanalytic Institute (STLPI), as well as having interned at STLPI. Before I was a therapist, I held jobs as a medical interpreter and a cultural liaison for international students. My training has set me up to work well with a diverse range of people and issues. While I don't like to limit myself too much, I particularly love working with young adults, queer and trans folks, relational issues, spiritual and religious concerns, and Arab and Muslim people. Feel free to check out my website, therapybyloren.com, for a more comprehensive look at how I practice and who I work with.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe none of us exist in a vacuum--the personal is political. I am deeply committed to social justice and to decolonizing my therapy practice. I can help you parse apart the different threads of your experience--the personal, familial, cultural, societal, religious, etc. so that you can have a full and nuanced picture of where you've been, where you are, and where you're going. In my time outside of the office, I serve the LGBTQ+ community and participate in anti-racist work.
