About My Clients
Have you been suddenly diagnosed with a medical diagnosis that has a less-than-favorable outcome? Or, oppositely, are you one of those people who have combated chronic pain daily without a break for your entire life? Either way, these unfair scenarios can be daunting while navigating regular life. There are days when finding the motivation to make it to the next hour or day seems impossible. I look forward to teaching you the tools to take your power back into your body as it is.
My Background and Approach
As someone who has dealt with chronic pain since birth, I can attest to the dreadful content trial-and-error of trying to enjoy life while embracing the reality that sometimes my body doesn’t have the physical capacity to do so, which is challenging. As a result, living this way takes a toll on your mental health, whether that be depression or anxiety, or both. After all, I can’t compartmentalize the parts of my body I like and ignore the physical discomfort. I am committed to helping clients with chronic pain or physical illness learn how to build healthier relationships with themselves and their support systems. My therapeutic approach targets ineffective behaviors, habits, and core beliefs about the disease process. Building a solid rapport with each client is the cornerstone of a successful therapeutic relationship. I ensure that assisting clients in reaching their goals is collaborative.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
Individuals are the experts in their lives because they have lived their lives, and I have not. However, sometimes, having a safe space where someone can organize their thoughts and feelings without feeling judged is helpful. Often, when we live with chronic illness or a sudden medical diagnosis, we feel shame or like we are a burden to our loved ones. Those types of repeated thoughts feel real, but they are not accurate. Each person is a worthy human being just because they are breathing. A body’s inability to compete on a level playing field does not indicate that a person does not deserve happiness or good things. I am a big advocate for mental health and the fair and equal treatment of oppressed populations. I enjoy the arts, creative writing, dining at new restaurants, and hanging out with my Labradoodle service dog, Buddy.
